Cincinnati alley renamed to honor slain musician

OVER-THE-RHINE - Bassist Michael Bany was a fixture in the Cincinnati music scene for over 25 years, playing with popular local bands like the Goshorn Brothers, Wheels and the Bluebirds.

In 1995, at age 41, he was robbed and killed following a performance in Over-the-Rhine. Walter Raglin is on death row for Bany's murder.

Now an alley near the spot he was murdered bears his name. Jail Alley is now Michael Bany Way.

A celebration will be held 11 a.m. Friday at the corner of Michael Bany Way and Main Street. At the event, The Michael W. Bany Music Scholarship will be awarded to Jalessa Andrews, who will attend Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Fla., to pursue a degree in music education.

For information, visit or call Mark Bany at 513-522-4114 or 513-479-8039.
